Indicators for an “International Safe Community”
There are seven international indicators which goes into action from 1st January 2012 that must be fulfilled by a community in order to be designated as an ISC:
Safe Communities have:
1. An infrastructure based on partnership and collaborations, governed by a cross- sector group that is responsible for safety promotion in their community;
2. Long-term, sustainable programs covering genders and all ages, environments, and situations;
3. Programs that target high-risk groups and environments, and programs that promote safety for vulnerable groups;
4. Programs that are based on the available evidence;
5. Programs that document the frequency and causes of injuries;
6. Evaluation measures to assess their programs, processes and the effects of change;
7. Ongoing participation in national and international Safe Communities networks.

The following "7 Indicators" goes into action from 1st January 2012 and are replacing the "6 Indicators" from May 2002 and the earlier "12 Criteria", which were developed 1989 by. Jerry Moller , Principle Consultant, Australia in collaboration with the participants from the “First Travelling Seminar on Safe Communities“and representatives from the two municipalities Falköping and Lidköping, Sweden.

Hong Kong SAR, China: In 2007, OSHC (Occupational Safety and Health Councilhas launched the Hong Kong Safe and Healthy)
Residential Care Home Accreditation Scheme. It aims to provide the assessment
criteria and accreditation procedure for the safety and health
management system of residential care homes in Hong Kong, as well
as encouraging residential care homes to establish a suitable safety
and health management system. The system can effectively control and
manage safety and health hazards arising from infection, violent
conflicts, drugs management, transfer of residents and other
activities. The Scheme has provided residential care homes the
guidelines for establishing safety and health management system
and assessment software.
