Surveillance of injuries :

Injury surveillance site in Huamu Hospital

The surveillance site filled in an injury report card about the outpatient service and emergency treatments to passively collect the injury data. At the same time, an electric data-entry system was established in the hospital. Special personnel were assigned to take the charge of entering data to form an e-record and reported them quarterly to Huamu injury surveillance team.

Injury surveillance site in residential quarters:

36 injury surveillance sites were established in residential quarters. Those trained instructors and investigators carried out active and long-term surveillance on individual injury cases in the community. The government sponsored to provide awards for investigators who provide qualified data. This way of surveillance effectively makes up the shortcomings of Huamu Hospital surveillance site. It reported quarterly the injury data outside the Huamu Hospital to Huamu Safe Community Construction Office.

Each year, SCDC gives a feedback on in-hospital records from 7 second-class (and above) hospitals in Pudong. (the records including disability and illness due to injury ). Those hospitals are Shanghai Dongfang Hospital , Shanghai Paediatrics Hospital , Shanghai Gongli Hospital , Shanghai Renji Hospital , Punan Hospital of Pudong New Area, Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Hospital and Shanghai 7 th People's Hospital.

An injury surveillance site in those unites where management is relatively centralized:

We established a children injury surveillance system in model kindergartens based on statistical and analyzing method in ICECI to supervise children (aged 0 to 6) injury data, analyzing the inner causes to children's injuries.

Conducting injury-related indoor surveys regularly

In 2006, an injury diagnosis, planned and designed by SCDC and implemented by Huamu Community, was conducted completely. It was carried out by means of household survey and subjects were selected randomly. The whole survey was done under the guidance and control of technicians from CDC. The survey involved in altogether 15,447 families and 41,993 residents. The data were entered, sorted out, studied and analyzed before forming a 2006 community injury diagnosis report.
