North American Regional Network of
International Designated Safe Communities

The North American Regional Network is a collaboration of municipalities from North America and nearby countries that have been designated as International Safe Communities by the World Health Organization's Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion. This network was established:

  • To provide support and communication opportunities among members and other interested groups for the purpose of enhancing community safety.
  • To encourage other municipalities to become designated as International Safe Communities and join the Network.

Purpose of the Network

  • Serve as a peer mentoring group.
  • Be a resource to new communities.
  • Provide a communication network among currently designated communities. This could include establishing and maintaining a blog/chat room/list serve, acting as a clearing house and providing links to information databases and inventories or programs and resources, and identifying businesses, programs and other resources that may be available in both Canada and the United States .
  • Strive to achieve one-two concrete outcomes each year.
