How to become a member of the
International Safe Community Network
A Safe Community can be a: Municipality; a
County; a City or a District of a City working with safety
promotion, Injury-, Violence- and Suicide- prevention and prevention of the consequences (human injuries)
related to Natural Disaster, covering
all age groups, gender and areas and is a part of an international
network of accredited programmes.
Those "Communities who want to apply appointment,
as a Safe Community including designation should
follow the following procedure:

1) An application describing the activities under each of
the Six
Indicators (Spanish) for a Safe Community must be submitted
as a hard copy and as a pdf. file; under the following title:
Application to Become a Member of the International Safe Community
Network for International Designation as a Safe Community
by the WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion.
2) Text for web page of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Community
Safety Promotion (a short version of the activities including
photos). See
attached pdf file (Spanish). Will be sent to you on request as a
word file.
3) The applying Community covers all costs related
to the Site Visit,
designation plus the Application Administration fee of 900
EUR. (The fee will be billed before the designation.)
4) Safe Community flags can be ordered by the Certifying Centre who is evaluating your program.
Big Safe Community flag: size 240 x 150 cm: Prize: 35 EUR
Table flag (for a 50 cm pole) 24 x 15 cm: Prize: 12 EUR

5) An Agreement is signed between the Community and the Karolinska
Institutet, WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion.
Send the names, including titles for signing. Agreement
attached. (Spanish)
6) The designation as a Safe Community
Time table for the Event: (suggestion)
7) The Safe Community logo will be sent as a jpg file and can
be used after the designation.

Beginning 2009, ISC are required to submit annual reports. Please submit by 1 February in word format your completed report and web page changes to the Certifying Centre who evaluated your application.

Redesignation after 5 years!
Follow up of the Safe Communities activities
The WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion at the Karolinska Institutet has decided to perform the follow up of the Safe Communities activities after 5 years, instead of after 10 years. (November 2005)
After Five Years - the Redesignation process Safe Communities that make their annual reports are considered members in good standing for five years. Those communities that do not submit annual reports are now required to submit applications for re-entry into the network, five years after their entry to the network. (13 November 2008)
