Redesignation after 5 years!
Follow up of the Safe Communities activities
The WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion at the Karolinska Institutet has decided to perform the follow up of the Safe Communities activities after 5 years, instead of after 10 years. (November 2005)
Re-designation after 5 years- important changes! (February 2011)
The WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion at the Karolinska Institutet decided already November 2005 that the redesignation time is 5 years. Two mechanisms for the follow up were suggested; annual reports during a five year time or a complete new application.
Our experience during this period is that the annual reports are lacking structure which could be related to the nowadays detailed checklists developed by most of the Certifying Centres. Also the paper work has a larger administrative cost than the value of that process. We have therefore decided to abandon the annual reports as the only mechanism for redesignation and from March 1st we are asking for full re-applications of the same standard as an ordinary first application. If some Certifying Centre wants to ALSO keep the annual reports they are free to do so.
What will happen after five years?
If we haven´t been reached by a letter of intent from the Mayor of the Community within five years- the community -as is the procedure now- will be completely removed from the numbered list of designated Safe Communities. When we are reached by the letter of intent the regular process of re-designation starts.
